“Don’t Mince Words”

Hitchens’ commentary on the Fundamentalist Muslims who practice a form of Islam that formed by, “…explicit rejection of any definition of Islam as a religion of peace.” His argument is that we avoid confronting the “fascistic subculture” of people who happen to call themselves Muslims out of fear of boing called bigots. He writes, “The least we can do, confronted by such radical evil, is to look it in the eye (something it strives to avoid) and call it by its right name.”  Well said.

The essay was written as a response to the 2007 Glasgow Airport car bombing. Note the newspaper report is very cautious not to mention that the bombers were from the middle east.

New learning: The 2007 car bombing outside of a night club in Piccadilly was described as, “…this explosion might have been designed to lure people into the street, the better to be burned and shredded by the succeeding explosion from the second car-borne cargo of gasoline and nails.” Same approach as the 2013 Boston Marathon bombers.

New word: theodicy = vindication of the divine goodness in view of the existence of evil
